ABSTRACT
One of the most contentious issue
surrounding globalization relates to its underlying institutional arrangement
at the core of this debate is the contention that the superintendence of the
international organization, including the popular nostrums they propagates, as
well as the massive place of transnational corporations violates the
sovereignty of nation states and circumscribe their leverage in domestic policy
matters. Paradoxically, globalization appears to hold national institutions
accountable to their citizens for exogenously induced policy failures and for
non-advancement in their well being.
Thus, globalization places the domestic
social compact between the state and society under serous threat. The
contradiction and uncertainties that are generated in the process may determine
the globalization project. This project surveys the main thrusts of this debate
and highlight the various perspectives to the issue. This project concludes
that the nation state will remain a central part of the institutional
architecture of globalization for it to stand a chance of succeeding.
